It has been expected that more than 50% of the world's population will be living in the rural or peri-urban areas. Over 70% of the total population depend on well, boreholes and uncertain source of water supply.

Another more bitter fact is that three-fourth of the people in developing world do not have safe drinking water; over 1800 billion people in developing country lack a reasonable supply of drinking water.
